WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel dropped a pair of matches in a Centennial Conference (CC) trimatch against Washington and Lee and Johns Hopkins in wrestling action on Saturday.
Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) led the Green Terror (3-10, 0-5 CC) with a pair of victories, including a first-period pin.
The Generals (6-6, 3-2 CC) edged McDaniel 21-13 to open the day before the Blue Jays (5-8, 3-2 CC) topped the Green Terror 24-18 in the second match of the day.
Nick Malinowski (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin School of Maryland) opened up the match against Washington and Lee with a 13-6 win before a Zach Bylykbashi second-period technical fall gave the Generals a 5-3 edge.
Drummond notched a 15-4 win at 149 in his first action of January to momentarily put the Green Terror back in front but the Generals then reeled off three straight wins to open up a 15-7 lead.
Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) closed the deficit to 15-10 with a 3-1 win at 174 but Iszak Morgan responded with a 7-4 decision at 184 to push the lead back to eight.
Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) kept the match within reach with a 10-4 victory at 197 but Matt Kaminer was able to escape with a 2-1 win at heavyweight.
Ricky Cavallo earned a first-period technical fall at 125 and Christian Vallis won 11-3 at 133 to stake Johns Hopkins to a 9-0 lead in the match.
Drummond closed the deficit to 9-6 with a 2-minute, 40-second pin.
Tommy Grifa and Erik Meyer (Fallston, Md./Archbishop Curley) traded victories at 149 and 157 before three straight Blue Jay wins, including a pair of major decisions, secured the match.
Pooton added a 4-2 win in sudden victory at 197. After Miles Gilliam got a late takedown in the third period to tie the match, Pooton got the winning takedown 35 seconds into sudden victory.
Emerson closed the match with a 33-second pin at heavyweight.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg for a matches against Muhlenberg and Ursinus on Saturday. Action begins at 12 p.m.
