Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – McDaniel opened up a 20-4 lead after the first quarter, riding that momentum to a 59-37 victory over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday.
Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the Green Terror (9-8, 7-5 CC) with a career-best 18 points. She rounded out her sixth career double-double with 11 rebounds.
Ali Grundy and Cassidy Quattro paced the Shorewomen (7-10, 4-8 CC) with 10 points each. Quattro added 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own.
Behind points from five different players, McDaniel built a 7-0 lead over the game's first 3:56 before Washington got on the board with a Quattro layup at the 5:37 mark.
After March and Kristi Kozlowski traded baskets, March hit a layup with 4:17 on the clock to spark an 15-0 run that extended the lead to 24-4 with 8:34 to play in the second period.
Neither team scored again until Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) hit a layup with 2:59 showing.
Bridget McLaughlin snapped a 12-minute, 23-second scoring drought just 13 seconds after the Smith layup.
A Grundy deep 3-pointer closed the deficit to 29-14 at halftime and Quattro hit a jump shot on the Shorewomen's first possession of the second half but the hosts would get no closer.
The Green Terror's fourth-quarter lead remained between 19 and 23 points for the entire 10-minute period.
Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic) and Smith also reached double figures for McDaniel with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Smith added five rebounds and four assists. Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added seven points, eight rebounds and four steals.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
