Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – McDaniel held Muhlenberg to just 10 first-half points en route to a 60-46 victory in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) led the Green Terror (7-7, 5-4 CC) with 18 points off the bench, including hitting four 3-pointers.
Brandi Vallely paced the Mules (8-6, 6-4 CC) as the only player in double figures in the scoring column with 12 points. She also added 10 rebounds and six steals.
Behind points from four different players, McDaniel opened up a 7-2 lead with 5:49 to play in the first quarter.
Vallely snapped a 7-minute, 47-second scoring drought with a layup at the 1:29 mark to make it a 9-4 game.
A Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) layup 42 seconds into the second quarter stretched the lead to 13-6.
Rachel Plotke scored Muhlenberg's first points of the second quarter with 2:08 on the clock before a pair of Anna Mondoro (Dumfries, Va./Homeschool) 3-pointers keyed an 8-0 run that stretched the lead to 25-9.
One Emily O'Mahoney free throw with 43 seconds left made it a 15-point game at the half.
The Mules tallied six points in the first 1:40 of the second half to close the deficit to single digits but McDaniel extended the advantage back as large as 13 en route to a 43-33 advantage at the end of the quarter.
After a Melanie Yeomans (Adamstown, Md./South Hagerstown) stretched the lead to 12 with 7:56 to play, Muhlenberg netted seven straight points to cut the deficit to five with 5:00 on the clock but that's as close as the hosts could get.
Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added 13 points and nine rebounds while Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added 10 points and five assists. Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the way on the glass with 15 rebounds.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
