Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson won a close first set en route to a 3-0 win over McDaniel in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday.
Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Suquehannock) led a balanced attack for the Green Terror (4-6) with eight kills.
Lauren Weaver and Annika Schwartz led the Mustangs (9-2) with 14 kills each.
In a first set the featured five ties and three lead changes, McDaniel opened up a 24-22 lead with four straight points.
Kills by Weaver and Schwartz evened the set at 24-all before a service error gave the Green Terror set point.
Another Weaver kill and a block by Schwartz and Victoria Prokic coupled with a Green Terror error gave the hosts five of the final six points and a 27-25 victory.
The second set was back and forth before a Weaver kill with the set tied at 8-all sparked a 5-1 run.
Four straight points later in the set extended the lead to 17-11 en route to a 25-17 victory.
Tied at 9-all after six ties and two lead changes early in the third set, Schwartz put down back-to-back kills to give Stevenson the lead for good.
An Alexis Duday (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) ace closed the deficit to 18-16 but a Weaver kill sparked a match-clinching 4-0 run en route to a 25-19 win.
Duday finished with a team-best 12 digs to go with six kills. Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) added 10 digs.
Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) chipped in seven kills while Lexi Corral (Tucson, Ariz./Gaithersburg [Md.]) added eight.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Hood on Thursday. Match time is 7 p.m.
