Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – McDaniel opened up a 25-15 halftime lead en route to a 52-38 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory at Washington (Md.) on Wednesday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) scored 16 points to lead the Green Terror (20-4, 15-2 CC), who will secure the top seed and host the CC tournament for the second straight year with a home win over Gettysburg in Saturday's regular-season finale.

Ali Grundy led the Shorewomen (3-20, 0-17 CC) with nine points.

Trailing 9-8 early in the second quarter, McDaniel scored eight straight points to take the lead for good. Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) started the run, hitting a layup with 7:45 showing before Nichols canned a 3-pointer and Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) converted a jumper.

Raley Hinton snapped a 4-minute, 12-second scoring drought for the hosts with a second-chance layup at the 3:54 mark.

Hinton added a second layup 36 seconds later to trim the deficit to four but four straight Green Terror free throws pushed the lead back to eight.

An Amanda Wood (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy) 3-pointer and Davis free throw in the final minute extended the lead to 10 at the break.

A Jordan Weir 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 30-23 with 5:44 to play in the third period before a Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) jumper sparked an 11-0 run to close the quarter.

The lead grew to 20 on a Nichols 3-pointer with 9:39 remaining that gave Nichols 1,302 points and broke a tie with her coach for eighth place all-time. She finished the night with 1,306 career points, which ranks seventh all-time.

Davis finished with eight points and a season high-tying eight assists for McDaniel, which was ranked eighth in the NCAA Div. III Mid-Atlantic rankings released earlier in the day. Bach added seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Game time on Saturday is 1 p.m.
