Drummond goes 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – McDaniel dropped three matches at the Washington and Lee Duals in non-conference wrestling action on Monday.

Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) led the Green Terror (3-5) with a 3-0 day that included a pin and technical fall among his victories.

McDaniel dropped a 29-18 decision to Trine to open the day before falling to Alma 32-8 and Ohio Northern, 38-9.

In the opening match with the Thunder (2-7), Brendan Stevens opened the match with a 1-minute, 46-second pin before Charles Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) took a forfeit at 133. Drummond added a 36-second pin at 141 for a 12-6 lead in the match.

Caleb Maddox (149) and Nick Miller (157) put together back-to-back wins to once again even the team score before Brandon Gay recorded a 16-0 win at 165 for a 17-12 lead in the match.

Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) worked a 3-2 win at 174 but a JayCee Jensen pin late in the first period at 184 pushed the lead to eight.

Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) made it a 23-18 match with a 7-4 victory at 197 but Tyler Prater secured the match with a second-period pin at heavyweight.

The Scots (7-6) won seven of the first eight bouts en route to the victory. Brendan Ladd opened the match with a 7-0 win at 125 before Aaron Parr-Beremer edged out a 9-8 win at 133.

Drummond closed the score to 6-5 with a 16-1 first-period technical fall at 141 but pins by Jared Fleming at 157 and Roderick Howard at 165 keyed a run of five straight Alma wins that secured the match.

Pooton added his second win of the day, winning 7-5 at 197.

The Polar Bears (4-0) won the final seven bouts after trailing 9-4 early in the match.

Seth Transue opened the day with a 9-1 at 125 to stake Ohio Northern to an early lead but a Nick Malinowski (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin School of Maryland) forfeit win at 133 and a Drummond 9-4 victory at 141 put McDaniel in front by five.

Seth Meyer (165) and Nathan Barcaskey (285) keyed the final run of Polar Bear wins with first-period falls.

McDaniel returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at home against Gettysburg on Friday, Jan. 13. Match time is 7 p.m.
