Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) paced the Green Terror (1-3, 0-1 CC) with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Madison McGrath led the Blue Jays (2-2, 1-0 CC) with 16 points, including hitting three of her four 3-point attempts.
Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 57 seconds with a Rory Cole layup and Madison McGrath 3-pointer in transition to force an early timeout.
Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) hit a triple out of the stoppage but the Blue Jays – behind baskets from five different players – scored 11 of the next 13 points to open up a 16-5 lead with 4:43 to play in the first quarter.
Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) drained an elbow jumper that just beat the shot clock buzzer to close the deficit to 19-13 with 1:21 on the clock but Johns Hopkins scored the final four points of the quarter to push the lead back to double digits.
A Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) layup and Smith 3-pointer closed the deficit to 25-18 with 7:25 showing in the second quarter.
However, Marissa Varnardo hit a layup to spark a 10-0 run that stretched the lead to 17.
Baskets by Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) and Smith in the final minute snapped a six-and-a-half scoring drought to close the margin to 35-22 at the break.
Four points from Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) keyed an 8-0 start to the half before Caroline Corcoran hit a 3-pointer for the hosts' first points of the second half with 6:17 showing.
The Green Terror got as close as 41-34 on a Smith layup with 4:56 remaining in the period before five straight points from McGrath pushed the lead back to 12 just 1 minute, 34 seconds later.
Melanie Yeomans (Adamstown, Md./Brunswick) hit a floater as time expired to make it a 51-42 game with 10 minutes to play.
Maggie Wodicka hit a triple on Johns Hopkins' first possession of the final quarter to return the lead to double digits, where it remained for the duration of the game.
Storer established a career high with 10 points while Burgess added nine and March chipped in eight.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
