McDonald makes three saves in third round

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis scored in the 87th minute to top McDaniel 1-0 in the third round of the NCAA Div. III women's soccer tournament on Saturday.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made three saves for the 15th-ranked Green Terror (18-3-1), who finished its season with a program-record 18 wins and advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

Samantha Schwartz netted the game-winner for the host Judges (15-3-4), who advance to Sunday's quarterfinals against the winner of the day's second game between No. 1 William Smith and No. 13 Amherst.

Schwartz took a cross from Haliana Buhans and found the back of the net with just 3:26 remaining in regulation of a scoreless game.

McDaniel's best opportunity came on a corner kick in the 13th minute. Jessica Beall (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) got a head on the Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) offering and sent it to the far top corner of the net but Brandeis defender Michaela Friedman was there to clear it off the line.

The Judges finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots, including holding an 8-2 edge in the second half.
