Kaitlin Langer led the Tommies (2-0) with 22 points, pacing three starters in double digits.
Behind five straight points to open the game by Gabby Zehrer, who joined Langer on the all-tournament team, St. Thomas opened up an early lead that they never relinquished.
Two Smith free throws and a Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) jumper, McDaniel closed to within 5-4 but four straight points from Langer pushed the lead back to five.
A Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) 3-pointer and Liv Storer (Wagnaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) jumper closed the deficit to 17-15 but Zehrer hit a triple of her own to push the lead back to five at the end of the quarter.
Langer scored 12 of St. Thomas' 14 second-quarter points to extend the lead to 21-34 at the break.
The teams played an even third quarter before back-to-back Lucia Renikoff 3-pointers started the strong fourth-quarter finish.
Melanie Yeomans (Adamstown, Md./South Hagerstown) and Storer joined Smith with eight points.
