Savin tallies nine kills

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore recorded eight straight points late in the third set to key a 3-0 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.

Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) led the attack for the Green Terror (11-10, 3-2 CC) with nine kills.

Sarah Wallace led the Garnet (13-2, 5-1 CC) with a double-double, recording 11 kills and 10 digs.

A pair of Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) keyed a 5-0 run that helped McDaniel open up a 6-3 advantage in the opening set.

A pair of Sarah Girard aces, however, put Swarthmore in front 11-8 en route to a 25-18 victory.

The Garnet scored the first four points of the second set and never trailed in a 25-17 win.

The third set featured five ties and two lead changes before Girard capped a 4-0 b8urst with an ace to give the hosts a 10-7 lead. An 8-0 run later in the set secured the 25-14 victory and the sweep.

Lugar finished with seven kills and eight digs. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) steadied the McDaniel defense with 19 digs while Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) added 10 digs and two aces.

Girard and Mehra den Braven steadied the Garnet defense with 19 and 18 digs, respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
