Palin scores game's first goal

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall, ranked 12th in the latest NSCAA Div. III coaches' poll, scored the final three goals of the game to defeat McDaniel 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.

Pat Palin (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led the Green Terror (3-6-2, 0-4-1 CC) with his third goal in the last three games.

Jason Tonelli paced the Diplomats (9-1-3, 4-0-1 CC) with a pair of goals.

After a scoreless first half, Palin wasted no time breaking the deadlock after the intermission. The freshman took a cross from Raul Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) on the right side and finished for a 1-0 lead just 1:10 into the second half.

Jeremy Levine got the equalizer on a free kick in the 64th minute before Tonelli netted his team-leading ninth and 10th goals in the final 19 minutes.

Ryan Fincher passed through the defense and found Tonelli, who finished at the 71:35 mark.

Just three minutes later, Tonelli dribbled past a pair of defenders and finished for the 3-1 final.

Franklin & Marshall finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots, including 8-2 in the decisive second half. Each team had four corner kicks.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington Adventist on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
