WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host the 2016 Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer championship tournament, to be held on Saturday and Sunday on campus.
The top-seeded Green Terror (15-1-1, 8-0-1 CC) will host the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Haverford (10-4-3, 4-3-2 CC) and Gettysburg (8-7-1, 4-4-1 CC) in Saturday's first semifinal at 11 a.m. Second-seeded Johns Hopkins (13-2-2, 8-1 CC) will square off against third-seeded Swarthmore (14-2, 7-2 CC) in the day's other semifinal, slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. or 60 minutes upon the conclusion of the first semifinal.
The championship game will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Nov. 12. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. It is the third tournament appearance for McDaniel and the first time it is the No. 1 seed. The Green Terror is also in search of its second straight NCAA tournament bid.
Johns Hopkins is in search of its 13th CC title while Swarthmore seeks its second. Haverford seeks its third conference crown while Gettysburg is in search of its sixth.
In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Fords, the teams played to a 1-all draw in Haverford on Oct. 22. McDaniel defeated Gettysburg 1-0 at home on Oct. 19.
Junior Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the Green Terror during the regular season with 10 goals and 21 points.
Senior Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added six goals, four assists and 16 points. Senior Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) chipped in five goals and a team-best nine assists for 19 points. Sophomore Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and junior Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) added four goals each. McDaniel ranks second in the conference in scoring with 37 goals.
Junior Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) posted a 0.41 goals-against average during the regular season and a save percentage of .910 Her goals-against average and save percentage both rank second in the CC.
