Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win three straight sets and defeat McDaniel 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the Green Terror (12-15, 3-7 CC) with 20 kills and 10 digs for her first career 20-10 performance. She also added four blocks and an ace.
Kaitlyn Marino paced the Shorewomen (12-13, 3-7 CC) with 15 kills.
McDaniel took the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21, respectively, before Washington won the third set, 25-18. The Shorewomen staved off a late Green Terror rally in the fourth set to force a deciding set, 25-22. Washington capped the comeback with a 15-12 victory.
The first set featured 10 ties and four lead changes before a pair of Lugar kills and a Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) ace keyed a 6-1 finish.
The Green Terror also scored six of the final eight points in the second set to break a 19-all deadlock.
Tied at 15-all in the third set, a Rachel Baker ace keyed a 6-1 run that helped the Shorewomen seal the victory.
Washington jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set behind back-to-back aces by Marino.
McDaniel closed to within 21-19 on a Lugar kill but the Shorewomen were able to escape with the three-point win to force the fifth set.
Two Marino kills around a Sarah Bentley ace helped Washington open a 7-2 lead before the Green Terror rallied to tie the set a 9-all.
Tied at 13-all, a ball handling error and two Alaina Geissberger kills capped the match.
Lexi Corral (Tucson, Ariz./Gathersburg [Md.]) added 10 kills and seven total blocks for McDaniel while Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) added 28 assists and 15 digs. Bauman steadied the defense with 29 digs. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added 17 digs while Abigail Hernandez (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) chipped in 12 digs.
