Bauman records 40 digs, five aces

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg opened up a 5-0 lead in the fifth set before holding on for a 15-11 victory and topping McDaniel 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.

Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the Green Terror (11-12, 3-4 CC) with a career-best 40 digs – the second highest total in program history for a single match – and five aces.

Laura Bergin led the Bullets (15-6, 5-2 CC) with a 20-20 performance, recording 21 kills and 22 digs.

Four Bergin kills and a Caroline Sequeira ace to open the deciding set staked the visitors to a 5-0 lead in a match that went back-and-forth all night.

Kills by Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Lexi Corral (Tucson, Ariz./Gaithersburg [Md.]) closed the deficit to 8-5 after the teams changed sides.

The Bullets pushed the lead out to 12-6 before an Alexis Duday (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) kill and back-to-back Gettysburg errors made it a three-point score once again.

A Patricia Davie (Key Largo, Fla./Williamstown Christian Academy) kill off an over trimmed the margin to 13-11 but a pair of errors capped the night, giving the Bullets a 15-13 victory.

McDaniel opened up a 6-1 lead in the first set and held a 20-13 advantage before a Sierra Conboy kill sparked a 12-3 rally for a 25-23 victory.

The Green Terror once again opened up a 5-0 lead in the second set behind back-to-back Davie knockdowns. The Bullets, however, responded with five straight points of their own. The set featured another 14 ties and four lead changes before kills by Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) keyed a 3-0 finish to give the hosts a 25-22 win.

McDaniel led the third set 4-1 en route to the most lopsided victory by either team on the night, 25-16.

The Green Terror continued the trend in the fourth set, opening up a 4-0 lead. McDaniel held a 20-14 lead later in the set before Gettysburg scored 12 of the final 16 points for a 26-24 victory.

Corral finished with a team-best 12 kills while Lugar added 10. Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) chipped in 29 assists and two of the Green Terror's 13 service aces. Davie added five total blocks while Savin and Corral had four and three, respectively.

McDaniel returns to action at Haverford for a trimatch with Baruch on Saturday. The first match begins at 12 p.m.
