WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel controlled play in the second half to defeat Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) scored the lone goal for the Green Terror (13-1, 6-0 CC), who remained undefeated in conference play and clinched a berth in the upcoming CC tournament.
Kiera Loftus led the Bullets (6-6-1, 2-3-1 CC) with 10 saves, including three from close range in the 51st minute.
In the 74th minute, Wroblewski took a pass from Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) on the left wing and fired a liner from the top of the box, finding the back of the net with her sixth tally of the season.
Gettysburg's best chance came in the 47th minute off a corner kick. Julia Ramsey put a shot on the near post that heading towards the back of the net but Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) was able to clear it out to keep it a scoreless game.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), the three-time reigning CC Defensive Player of the Week, made two saves for her program-record 10th shutout of the season.
McDaniel, which earned the No. 3 ranking in the initial NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic rankings earlier in the day, posted its first win over the Bullets since 2005 to snap an 0-9-1 stretch.
The Green Terror finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots, including 17-3 in the decisive second half, and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at Haverford on Saturday in search of clinching a first-round bye in the tournament. A win or tie on Saturday will secure one of the top three seeds. Game time is 1 p.m.
