Gibson scores early for key win

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel scored in the game's fourth minute to help capture a key Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer game, defeating Swarthmore 2-0 on Saturday.

Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had the early tally for the Green Terror (12-1, 5-0 CC), who kept pace with Johns Hopkins to remain undefeated in conference play with two weeks remaining. McDaniel needs just one more point (win or tie) to secure its third CC tournament bid in the last four seasons.

Sydney Hunter made three saves for the 22nd-ranked Garnet (12-2, 5-2 CC), who fell to third place in the conference standings with just two CC contests remaining.

Just 3:18 into the game, Gibson was able to finish a rebound off a Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) shot off the crossbar for a 1-0 lead.

The lead held – despite a 19-11 advantage in shots by Swarthmore – until Allie Titus (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) netted her first collegiate goal. The freshman headed in a ball that bounced through the Garnet defense for the insurance goal with 10:29 to play.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) picked up her second 10-save game in the last three outings, registering 10 saves to key the squad's 11th shutout of the season.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
