COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus scored the game's first 17 points en route to a 62-50 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (9-3, 4-1 CC) with 23 while Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added 16 points.

Jessica Porada tallied 17 points to pace the Bears (7-5, 6-0 CC), who remained in first place with the victory. Alyssa Polimeni and Caroline Shimrock added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Behind 10 points from Porada, Ursinus took a 17-0 lead with 3:19 to play in the first quarter.

The Bears' defense held McDaniel to 0-for-16 to start the game before Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) finally got the visitors on the board 8 minutes, 48 seconds into the game.

An Elana Roadcloud jumper made it a 19-2 game after the first 10 minutes.

Another Porada basket extended the lead as high 19 just 33 seconds into the second quarter before a Zeps jumper and Nichols 3-pointer trimmed the margin to 21-7 with 6:32 showing.

A Nichols layup with 3:26 on the clock made it a 25-13 game but Ursinus scored nine of the final 11 points in the first half to take a 34-15 advantage into the locker room.

A Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) free throw with 8:36 remaining in the third quarter was the first Green Terror point not scored by Nichols or Zeps, who added back-to-back layups to trim the deficit to 14.

Trailing 46-28, a Davis 3-pointer and back-to-back triples from Nichols sparked a 14-4 burst over a 2-minute, 58-second span that trimmed the margin to eight with 5:35 to play.

A Polimeni three-point play and two Shimrock free throws pushed the lead back to 13 before Nichols' fourth 3-pointer made it a 55-45 game with 2:57 remaining.

The Bears scored the next seven points, however, to secure the win.

Davis finished with eight points and three assists while Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) chipped in three points.

The Green Terror returns to action at No. 10 Muhlenberg on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
