Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel overcame an early 13-point deficit to defeat St. Mary's (Md.) 64-57 in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (8-2) with 17 points that included hitting the 1,000th of her career. The senior drained a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 8:58 to play in the third quarter to become the 16th member of the club.
Kobe Chaney paced the Seahawks (3-8) with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Trailing 53-551 early in the fourth quarter, Nichols hit the first of two free throws with 8:05 to play to draw the hosts within one.
With 7:42 on the clock, Amanda Wood (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy) hit an elbow jumper to put McDaniel in front for good.
Nichols extended the lead to three on the Green Terror's next possession before Kerri Kline and Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) traded baskets.
A second Nichols 3-pointer extended the lead to six with 4:40 on the clock en route to the seven-point win.
St. Mary's raced out to a 13-4 lead over the game's first 6:08 before a Nichols putback with 3:35 on the first-quarter clock snapped an 0-for-8 start from the floor for the Green Terror.
Libby Bowles (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) hit her first collegiate 3-pointer with 18 seconds to play in the period to close the margin to 23-16.
McDaniel extended the run in to the second quarter, closing to within 30-28 on a Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) putback with 5:26 showing.
A Haley Riebling 3-pointer and Chaney layup pushed the lead back to seven but a pair of Wood triples bookended an 8-2 spurt to pull the hosts within 37-36 at the break.
After Kline hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to four on St. Mary's first possession of the second half, Nichols responded with the triple that gave her 1,001 points.
Jumpers from Zeps and Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) gave McDaniel its first lead 43-42 with 5:29 on the clock.
Davis finished with 14 points and six assists while Zeps added 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Nichols added eight rebounds to her 17 points.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bryn Mar on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
