Nichols tallies career-high 32 in road victory

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel finished the game on a 22-3 run to top Gettysburg 73-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on Wednesday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (15-3, 10-1 CC) with a career-best 33 points.

Emily Gibbons paced the Bullets (12-4, 6-4 CC) with 18 points to lead three players in double figures.

Trailing 57-51, Nichols, Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) and Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute)each hit a pair of free throws to even the game with 5:02 to play.

Nichols added a 3-poiner and two free throws after a second technical foul to extend the run to 11-0 and put McDaniel in front 62-57 with 4:23 on the clock.

A single Gibbons free throw with 2:36 to play snapped the run at 13-0 but Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) was able to respond at the other end with a 3-pointer from the top of the arc.

Davis then hit Nichols on the break to make it a double-digit game for the first time.

Behind a layup and 3-pointer by Nichols, McDaniel jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game's first 65 seconds.

Trailing 9-5, Gibbons drained a triple with 6:44 showing to spark a 7-2 stretch that gave the hosts a 12-11 edge two minutes later.

A Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) baseline jumper and Davis layup turned the advantage back to the Green Terror.

A Nichols 3-pointer with 1:01 remaining in the first quarter stretched the lead to 20-14 before a Jessica Porter jumper closed the deficit to four at the end of the period.

After a Nichols runner gave McDaniel a 22-18 lead, Gibbons responded with a jumper at the 7:53 mark to spark a 7-0 run to go in front, 25-22.

A Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) jumper on the block and Burgess triple from the wing turned the three-point deficit into a two-point lead with 5:11 remaining.

A Kim Ryan a 3-pointer in the left corner and four straight points from Porter gave Gettysburg a 34-29 lead at the break.

A Gibbons backdoor layup 54 seconds into the third quarter pushed the lead to 36-29 before Nichols drained a 3-pointer and Smith three-point play closed the deficit to one with 8:26 showing.

Back-to-back Emma Dorshimer jumpers extended the lead back to four just over two minutes later.

The lead grew to 44-37 on another Dorsher layup with 5:18 to play before Bach responded with a layup.

After an offensive foul was called, the Bullets were hit with a technical foul and Nichols canned both ensuing free throws. Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added a 15-footer to close the margin to one.

Six straight points from Gibbons pushed the lead back to seven en route to a 52-47 lead after three quarters.

Zeps finished with nine points and nine rebounds to go with three assists and four steals.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against No. 16 Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
