McWilliams, Stewart combine for 23

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored 13 straight points to break a 37-all deadlock en route to a 68-46 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball on Monday.

Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led the Green Terror (6-8, 3-5 CC) with 12 points while Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) also reached double figures with a career-best 11 points.

Cedric Moune led the 19th-ranked Diplomats (14-3, 9-1 CC) with 19 points.

A pair of baskets staked Franklin & Marshall to a 4-0 lead in the first 1:12 of the game before Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) pulled down an offensive rebound and stuck the putback.

Stewart added a layup on the next McDaniel possession to even the score with 17:39 showing.

After a McWilliams 3-pointer put the Green Terror in front by one, Matthew Tate hit a pair of free throws and then bounced home a floater in the lane to make it a 10-7 game and force a timeout with 13:22 remaining in the opening half.

After Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hit both ends of a one-and-one with 4:45 to play to give McDaniel a 22-20 lead, Franklin & Marshall reeled off seven straight points.

A Nick Yockey (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) turnaround layup with 1:29 on the clock trimmed the deficit to three.

Two Jared Wright free throws pushed the lead back to five nearly a minute later before Yockey completed a three-point play with 7.5 on the clock to make it a 29-27 game.

Wright drove the length of the court and just beat the first-half buzzer to stretch the advantage to four at the break.

A long jumper from Brooks trimmed the deficit to 32-31 a minute into the period but a Hunter Eggers 3-pointer in the corner pushed the lead back to four with 17:38 showing.

Four points from Stewart helped key a 6-2 stretch that leveled the game at 37-all but the Diplomats quickly countered with a 13-0 run of their own to open up a 50-37 lead with 11:35 to play. Brandon Federici had five of his points during the span.

A Stewart floater in the lane momentarily halted the run and snapped a 4-minute, 17-second scoring drought.

McDaniel twice drew to within 10 points but could get no closer down the stretch.

The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
