Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel jumped out to a 13-6 lead and never looked back en route to a 66-54 victory over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), who had scored just 21 points in the last three games combined, returned to form for the Green Terror (7-8, 4-5 CC) with 24 points, including hitting six 3-pointers for the third time this season.
Dave Knox led the Shoremen (2-12, 0-8 CC) with 16 points 11 rebounds.
Brooks hit a triple on McDaniel's first possession before the teams traded layups.
Pat Morgan hit a long jumper to make it a 5-4 game before 3-pointers from Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Brooks bookended an 8-2 burst that opened up the seven-point lead with 15:28 on the clock.
After two Knox free throws, Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) hit a jumper. Brooks then canned another 3-pointer. Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) added a fast-break layup. Stewart finished another layup to extend the lead to 22-8 midway through the period.
Holding a 34-19 lead at the break, Brooks drained his fifth trey of the game 45 seconds into the second half and Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) hit a layup to give the hosts a 20-point lead.
Trailing 49-31, Kaiden Williams hit a jumper at the midway point of the stanza to ignite a 7-0 burst that trimmed the deficit to 11 two minutes later but the Green Terror extended the lead back to 16 on a Cannon fast-break layup with 4:40 showing.
Washington could only get as close as nine down the stretch, however.
Stewart finished with 13 points while Cannon added 12 points and a career-best six assists.
McDaniel is scheduled to return to action at No. 13 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at 3 p.m. Due to the impending weekend snowstorm, a decision on any adjustment to game time or date will be made on Thursday or Friday.
