SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore scored seven straight points late in the second half to defeat McDaniel 59-54 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led the Green Terror (6-8, 3-5 CC) with his 12th career 20-point game, finishing with 21 points.

Robbie Walsh and Sam Lebryk paced the Garnet (12-3, 6-2 CC) with 12 points each. Zach Yonda added 10 points.

Trailing 52-20 on a Cameron Royster (Derwood, Md./Magruder) steal-and-layup with 6:04 to play, a Walsh putback evened the game for the 10th time.

Henry Cousineau drained a 3-pointer on Swarthmore next possession to put the hosts in front to stay with 5:03 showing.

A Walsh layup stretched the lead to five before Stewart converted a floater in the lane with 56.0 seconds remaining to make it a one-possession game.

The Green Terror had a pair of looks at a game-tying 3-pointer in the final 20 seconds but could not covert and Yonda drained both free throws with 3.1 seconds left to seal the win.

Baskets from Sean Thaxter and Lebryk staked the hosts to a 4-0 lead just 1:46 into the game before Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Stewart responded to even the game.

A Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) 3-pointer put McDaniel in front with 16:22 on the clock but Cousineau responded at the other end to level the game once again.

Back-to-back triples from Lebryk and Matt Brennan gave Swarthmore a 25-20 lead with 5:40 to play in the opening half.

Five points from Yonda in the final 2:17 of the stanza made it a 32-26 game at the intermission.

Behind points from four different players, McDaniel scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 34-32 lead with 15:28 remaining. The teams traded baskets for the next nearly 10 minutes before the Garnet game-clinching burst.

In addition to 10 ties, the game featured 18 lead changes and neither team led by more than six points.

Royster finished with 12 points off the bench while Brooks and Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) led the way on the glass with six boards each.
