WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored 20 points in the final 8:58 to overcome a five-point deficit and defeat Haverford 48-42 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Thursday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (11-3, 6-1 CC) with a season-best 28 points while the rest of her team combined to tally 20.

Sierra Berkel posted a double-double for the Fords (8-5, 3-3 CC) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Trailing 33-28, Nichols canned a 3-pointer with 8:58 showing in the fourth period to draw the hosts within two. Just 17 seconds later, she forced a turnover and fed Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) on the break to even the score.

After Nichols and Katie Cook traded triples, Nichols laid home a basket with 4:49 on the clock for a two-point edge.

Cook canned another triple before Nichols and Berkel traded baskets.

A Nichols jumper made it a 42-41 game with 1:59 to play before a Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) made it a three-point game with a layup of her own 34 seconds later.

The Green Terror made four of its eight free throws in the final 54 seconds to preserve the win.

A Nichols 3-pointer gave McDaniel a 5-2 lead with 7:17 on the first quarter clock before back-to-back Berkel baskets keyed an 8-0 run.

Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) pulled up on the break to hit an elbow jumper with 23 ticks remaining in the quarter, making a 10-7 game.

A Davis 3-pointer and Zeps layup 24 seconds apart evented the game at 12-all with 8:41 on the second-quarter clock.

Tied at 19-all, three-point plays from Wetzel and Berkel around a Nichols putback gave the visitors a 23-21 edge at the break.

Four straight points from Wetzel in the first 1:29 of the third quarter extended the lead to its largest margin.

Zeps finished with a game-high and career-high tying 14 rebounds to go with seven points. Smith had six steals while Nichols added five as part of a 19-steal night.
