BALTIMORE, Md. – McDaniel won the final three bouts to top Johns Hopkins 24-15 in the Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling opener for both teams on Wednesday.
Trey Mitchell (Lewes, Del./Caesar Rodney) led the Green Terror (8-3, 1-0 CC), earning a quick reversal and pin in the first period at 149.
Jared Forman paced the Blue Jays (0-1, 0-1 CC) with a 17-1 technical fall victory at 174, tying the match at 15-all.
Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) followed with a 9-3 win at 184 to put the visitors in front for good.
Jake Pooton (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) earned a late takedown with his 197-pound bout even at 6-all to earn an 8-6 win and put McDaniel ahead 21-15, sealing the victory.
Taylor Avino (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) wrapped up the night with a 5-3 win at heavyweight to notch his seventh straight victory.
Evan Krumheuer staked Johns Hopkins to a 3-0 lead with a 5-3 win at 125 before Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) turned the three-point deficit into a three-point lead with a 58-second fall at 133.
A Lucas Escobar 6-4 win midway through the first sudden-victory period at 141 drew the match level once again.
Mitchell's 1-minute, 47-second pin and a 10-6 Wade Bishop (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) victory at 157 made it a 15-6 score.
Tommy Grifa added a point for riding time to give him a 12-4 major decision at 165 before the Forman technical fall evened the score for the final time.
McDaniel returns to action in a home CC quad match, hosting Muhlenberg and Merchant Marine on Saturday. Action begins at 11 a.m.
