Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg scored 16 of the final 18 points in the first half to open up a double-digit advantage en route to a 68-48 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball victory over McDaniel on Tuesday.
Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led the Green Terror (5-7, 2-4 CC) with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Nick Rindock paced the Mules (6-6, 3-3 CC) with 25 points, including three of his team's eight 3-pointers.
Trailing 19-16, John Hunter hit the second of two free throws with 5:32 to play in the first half before Rindock canned a triple 51 seconds later to put the hosts in front for good.
Rindock added a jumper on Muhlenberg's next possession then Owen McLeod hit one free throw to make it a six-point game.
After Nick Yockey (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Rindock traded layups, Rindock added five more points in the final 1:12 of the stanza to make it a 32-21 lead at the break.
A JeanLee Baez free throw extended the lead to 12 a minute into the second half before a Stewart three-point play trimmed the deficit to single digits.
The lead swelled back to 13 before a Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum)3-pointer sparked a 7-2 burst to make it a 41-33 game with 13:00 to play.
An Erik Werheim jumper and Jon Schreer 3-pointer 28 seconds apart quickly pushed the lead back to 13, however.
The Green Terror once again drew to within eight when a Perugino jumper made it 53-45 with 6:02 to play but 10 straight Mule points secured the win.
Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) added eight rebounds while Perugino finished with eight points.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Haverford on Thursday. Game time is 8 p.m.
