Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel used a 27-25 third set to cap a sweep of Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) before needing a fifth set with RIT to complete a 2-0 first day at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg in non-conference volleyball action on Friday.
Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) each notched seven kills to lead the Green Terror (3-0) in the opener while Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) killed all four of her attack attempts.
McDaniel won the first two sets against the Knights (0-2), including the first set by a 25-8 margin. Behind 15 straight service points from Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock), the Green Terror cruised in the second set, 25-4.
Weger added nine digs to her six service aces while Jenna Hostetler (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) chipped in six digs.
Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor School) added four aces, three kills and three blocks in two sets.
Against the Tigers (2-1), McDaniel jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match, taking the opening set 25-14 and the second set, 25-20. RIT rallied, however, to force a deciding set with matching 25-18 victories in the third and fourth sets.
Clinging to an 8-6 lead in the fifth set, the Green Terror notched seven of the match's final 10 points to take the match, 15-9. McDaniel won its first five-set match of the season after dropping eight straight five-set matches since Oct 5, 2013.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the way in the second match of the day with 20 kills while also adding 16 digs for her first double-double of the year.
Freshman Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) established a career best with 20 digs.
Corral and Rose added four blocks each while contributing seven and six kills, respectively. Rath added six kills.
Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) added 21 assists while Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) chipped in 16.
McDaniel returns to action on day two of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday. The Green Terror takes on Messiah at 10 a.m. and Penn State-Altoona at 2 p.m.
