Box Score 2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – McDaniel dropped a pair of matches to top-25 teams in non-conference volleyball action at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (7-4) on the day, recording 30 total kills that included the 1,000th of her career. She was named to the all-tournament team for her play.
Carnegie Mellon, ranked 22nd nationally, took the first two sets of 3-1 win by 25-17 and 25-22 margins before McDaniel forced a fourth set with a 25-17 win. The Tartans (13-1) closed out the match with a 25-10 win.
Martin finished with 17 kills and nine digs, including five in the first set that gave her 1,000 exactly for her career.
Carnegie Mellon opened the match on a 5-0 run and stretched the lead to 13-2 en route to a 1-0 lead in the match.
A Martin ace closed the second set to 23-22 before back-to-back attack errors wrapped up the set.
Back-to-back Martin kills keyed a 10-6 start to the third set en route to forcing the final set.
The Tartans scored the final six points of the fourth set for the win.
Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the defense with 18 digs while Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) added 16 digs to go with 20 assists.
Eastern, ranked 15th, won in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-22.
Martin finished with 13 kills while Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) added nine. Bauman once against steadied the defense with 14 digs.
The Eagles (11-2) opened up an 11-3 lead in the first set en route to the 10-point win before scoring eight of the final nine points in the second set.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
