Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel notched a pair of 3-0 wins to sweep Gallaudet and Pitt-Greensburg in non-conference volleyball action on Saturday.
Freshman Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the way for the Green Terror (7-1) in the opening match against Gallaudet, establishing a career best with 13 kills and hit .611 in the match.
Tessa Lewis paced the Bison (6-1) with 10 kills.
The first set featured 11 ties and two lead changes before two kills from Lexi Corral (Tuscon, Ariz./Gaithersburg [Md.]) around a Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor School) stretched a thre-point edge into a 23-17 lead.
Lugar put down the final two kills of the match to cap a 25-17 win.
A Rose ace in the second set keyed an 8-2 run that turned a 5-3 deficit into an 11-7 lead. The lead swelled to 20-12 on a back-to-back kills from Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) en route to a 25-17 win.
The Green Terror jumped out to a 3-0 lead on three Gallaudet attack errors and never trailed in the set, completing the sweep, 25-15.
Rose added seven kills and three blocks while Corral had six kills and four blocks. Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the defense with eight digs.
Against Pitt-Greensburg, Corral led the way with 12 kills while Rose added nine.
Julie Barron and Autumn Karlheim paced the Bobcats (0-6) with four kills each.
Jasmine Soriano (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) served 11 straight points as part of a 25-5 opening-set win.
McDaniel opened up a 6-1 lead in the second set and never trailed in a 25-15 victory.
Two Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) aces and a pair of kills from Corral keyed an 8-0 start the final set. The Green Terror completed the sweep, 25-13.
Lugar finished the second match with five kills while Rath had seven. Soriano contributed six kills.
Weger and Jenna Hostetler (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) steadied the defense with 12 digs each.
Moyer had 19 assists in each match while Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) added 13 in the first match and Sarah Donnelly (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) had 16 against Pitt-Greensburg.
McDaniel returns to at home against Muhlenberg to open the Centennial Conference schedule on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
