Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel went on an 11-3 run midway through the first set to break open a back-and-forth start and defeat Goucher 3-0 in season-opening volleyball action on Tuesday.
Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor School) led the Green Terror (1-0) with nine kills, four blocks and four digs.
Kelly Budge paced the attack for the Gophers (0-1) with six kills.
Trailing 6-5 after the teams traded points to open the season, Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) knocked down a kill to even the set at 6-all and start an 11-3 run to open up some breathing room.
McDaniel stretched the lead to 16-9 before a Budge kill ended the rally but the Green Terror prevailed in the opening set, 25-15.
A Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) capped a 3-1 start to the second set.
Clinging to an 8-6 lead, Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) knocked down back-to-back kills.
A Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) ace and Rose kill stretched the lead to 12-6 and forced a Goucher timeout.
The Green Terror's lead swelled to 17-7 en route to a 25-13 win.
A Rath ace keyed a 3-1 start to the third set before McDaniel gradually built its lead to 12-5 to force a timeout.
The Green Terror won the final set, 25-12.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) finished with nine kills and four digs while Rath had six knockdowns.
Sarah Donnelly (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) contributed 12 assists and five digs.
McDaniel returns to action at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg on Friday. The Green Terror takes on Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. and RIT at 7 p.m.
