LEXINGTON, Va. – Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) recorded two pins in an 0-2 finish to the Centennial Conference (CC) dual-meet wrestling season on Saturday.
The Green Terror (7-9, 3-5 CC) dropped a 37-18 decision to Stevens to open the day before falling 27-14 to No. 24 NYU to finish the day.
Rob Murray opened the day for the Ducks (13-6, 6-2 CC) with a 19-2 win before O'Boyle and Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) notched back-to-back first-period pins to give McDaniel a 12-5 lead in the match. O'Boyle won in 2:45 while Drummond got his takedown in 1:34.
Five straight wins by Stevens, however, secured the match. Zach Wilhelm (149), CJ Caserta (165) and AJ Kowal (174) all won by fall during the stretch. Caserta had the quickest fall, winning in just 48 seconds. Wilhelm and Kowal's falls came in the second period.
Ricky Tisinger (Edinburg, Va./Stonewall Jackson) recorded a fall of his own for the Green Terror, winning the 197-pound match in 2 minutes, 15 seconds.
The match with the Violets (18-3, 8-0 CC) started much the same way. Wayne Yuan recorded an 11-0 win at 125 to stake his squad to a 4-0 lead before O'Boyle and Drummond put McDaniel on top 11-4.
O'Boyle won by fall in 2:00 at 133 before Drummond recorded a 5-minute, 40-second technical fall, 19-3 at 141.
Matt Coopola won 12-3 and Matt DiGiovanni tallied a 7-3 victory to even the match at 11-all at the midway point.
John Messinger and Raymond Jazikoff extended the streak to four straight wins, though, to give NYU a 17-11 lead. Messinger won 5-2 at 165 before Jazikoff won 6-2 at 174.
Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) drew the Green Terror within three with a 9-3 win at 184 but Brian Anderson secured the win with a 2-minute, 24-second fall at 197. William Gockel-Figge rounded out the day with an 18-5 win at heavyweight.
McDaniel returns to action, hosting the CC Championship on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.
