Nichols nets 31 in victory

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel put together a 19-2 run that spanned both halves to turn a two-point deficit into a 15-point lead, resulting in a a 59-43 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at Gettysburg on Saturday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the 25th-ranked Green Terror (23-2, 16-2 CC) with a career-best 31 points, registering the program's first 30-point game since Kristy Costa tallied 34 at Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 14, 2006.

Jessica Porter scored 10 points to lead the Bullets (16-8, 10-8 CC), who will travel to Haverford for Tuesday's first-round CC tournament game. The winner of that game meets McDaniel in one semifinal to be held in Westminster on Friday. Game times will be determined on Monday.

Trailing 24-22 on an Emily Gibbons 3-pointer with 3:47 to play in the first half, Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Palotti) responded with a layup a minute later to even the game and Nichols hit two of her four first-half 3-pointers to give the Green Terror a 30-24 edge at the break.

A Nichols steal-and-layup extended that lead to eight just 24 seconds into the second half before an Annie Reilly second-chance basket once again made it a six-point game.

Keyed by triples from Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and Nichols, McDaniel tallied the game's next nine points to open up a 41-26 lead with 16:16 to play.

The Bullets countered with 10 of the game's next 11 points to close to within 42-36 on a Jenna Swope layup with 12:17 showing.

An Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) free throw and Nichols 3-pointer pushed the lead back to double digits just 63 seconds later.

A Nichols layup and two March baskets stretched the advantage to 52-36 before a Nichols jumper gave McDaniel its largest lead with 6:02 remaining.

Gettysburg built an 8-4 lead on a Porter layup with 15:04 on the first-half clock before a eight straight points from Nichols gave the visitors a four-point edge 1:22 later.

The Bullets once again countered, scoring seven straight before a Perez triple evened the game at 15-all with 11:32 remaining.

March finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals while Perez added 10 points. Davis handed out five assists while Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) had four helpers.
