Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – In a game that featured 13 ties and 10 lead changes over the first 33 minutes, a eight-point Elizabethtown run in the fourth quarter sealed a 59-53 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's basketball action on Sunday.
Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) led the Green Terror (7-2) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) reached double digits for the ninth time this season with 15 points, adding six rebounds and three steals.
Emily Martin led the Blue Jays (6-2) with 18 points and 16 rebounds, including back-to-back layups when the game was tied for the 13th and final time at 40-all.
Trailing 40-38 on a Zeps putback with 8:15 to play, Alyssa Aichele responded at the other end with a layup to even the game with 8:02 showing.
Off a turnover, Martin put the visitors in front to stay 36 seconds later before adding a second layup 46 seconds after that.
Marissa Gingrich scored on the break to cap the 8-0 burst over just a 1-minute, 41-second span.
A Zeps three-point play closed the deficit to 50-48 with 2:17 remaining before Rachel Forjan hit the first of two free throws at the other end to push the lead back to three.
Nichols scored to make it a 51-50 game but Abby Beyer had the answer at the other end and the Blue Jays hit all six of their free-throw attempts in the final 35.2 seconds to secure the win.
Neither team had more than a one-possession lead in the first half until Beyer canned a triple and converted the ensuing free throw for a four-point play with 3:35 to play in the second period to give Elizabethtown a 24-19 lead.
A Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) layup and Nichols 3-pointer evened the game at 24-all with 1:47 on the clock before Beyer hit a jumper with 16 seconds left to give the visitors a two-point lead at the break.
A Beyer pull-up 3-pointer on the break made it a 38-35 game with 3:30 to play in the third period before Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) knocked down a put-back jumper to close the deficit to one at the end of the period.
Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the way on the glass for McDaniel, pulling down a career-best 10 rebounds.
