Brooks hits career-best six triples

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Marymount put together a 21-6 run midway through the second half to open up a 17-point lead before holding on to top McDaniel 63-52 in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday.

Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) led the Green Terror (4-3) with 20 points, hitting a career-best six 3-pointers – the most by a McDaniel player in a single game since 2013. He also matched his career high with five steals. Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) added 16 points.

D'Ondre Stockman led four players in double figures for the Saints (3-6) with 15 points.

Tied at 24-all on two Brooks free throws with 1:38 to play in the first half, Trey Johnson hit the second of two free throws with 1.2 seconds on the clock to give the visitors a one-point edge at the break.

After Alex Danko and Stewart traded layups to open the second half, Stockman scored five straight points to match the biggest lead of the game.

A Cameron Royster (Derwood, Md./Magruder) layup and two Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) free throws closed the deficit to 32-20 with 15:11 to play.

Seven straight Saint points started the game-clinching run.

A Rick Narcisses steal-and-layup gave Marymount its first double-digit lead at 43-32 with 9:13 to play.

After Stewart responded at the other end with a 3-pointer from the corner as the shot clock expired, Danny Ferry pulled up on the other end and hit a trey of his own to ignite a 9-0 burst.

Trailing 53-36, Cannon hit a jumper then converted a steal into a two points before Brooks canned a 3-pointer to close the deficit to 53-43 with 5:17 remaining.

A Stewart 3-pointer and pair of triples from Brooks helped close the margin to 59-52 with 1:52 to play but the Green Terror could get no closer.

A Narcisse tip-in off a missed free throw gave the Saints a 20-14 lead with 6:06 to play in the first half but Brooks and Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) each hit 3-pointer to draw the hosts even and Stewart hit a jumper to give McDaniel its first lead with 3:50 on the clock.

A Pat Dumais layup at the other end and two Jesse Longmire free throws put Marymount back in front by two.

Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) led the way on the glass with nine rebounds.

McDaniel returns to action against Montclair on the first day of the Roanoke New Year's Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 2. Game time is 12 p.m.
