WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel split a pair of matches to close out 2015 at its own Grapple on the Hill in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
Taylor Avino (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) led the Green Terror (4-2) with a pair of wins, including a pin.
McDaniel topped Greensboro 50-0 in its first match of the day before falling to 24th-ranked Wilkes 24-19 to cap action.
Against the Pride (3-5), Tyler Zimmerman and Mike O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) took back-to-back forfeits to stake the Green Terror to a 12-0 lead.
Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) followed with a 1-minute, 9-second fall at 141 and Trey Mitchell (Lewes, Del./Caesar Rodney) added a 1-minute, 29-second pin at 149 to double the lead.
An Eric Meyer (Fallston, Md./Archbishop Curley) first-period technical fall at 157 pushed the lead to 29-0 before Luke Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) won 4-0 at 165.
Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) notched the fastest pin of the day, winning in 37 seconds at 184 before Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Avino added decision wins around a Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) forfeit at 197. Cross won 13-7 at 184 while Avino won 5-3 at heavyweight.
Against the Colonels (8-2), Michael Fleck opened the action with a pin in 1:05 to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.
Mike O'Boyle and Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) followed with wins to give McDaniel a 7-6 edge. O'Boyle won 6-1 at 133 before Drummond captured a 12-3 victory at 141.
A Josh Evans 9-3 win at 149 and injury default win by Nicholas Racanelli turned the one-point deficit into an eight-point advantage for Wilkes.
Yox earned a takedown in the final two seconds of the match to take a 7-6 win at 165 before Wuest rallied for a 4-3 win to draw the Green Terror within 15-13 with three bouts remaining.
A Kyle Diesel first-period fall and Nicholas Dawson 5-1 win sealed the victory for the Colonels.
Avino capped the day with a 1-minute, 33-second pin at heavyweight.
The Green Terror returns to action at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus on Saturday, Jan. 9. Action begins at 9:30 a.m.
