Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – McDaniel used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to build a double-digit lead en route to a 64-51 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball win at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (5-1, 2-0 CC) with 19 points, hitting four 3-pointers.
Liz Tommasi paced the Blue Jays (2-3, 1-1 CC) with nine points while Rachel Cook added eight points and eight rebounds.
Trailing 10-8 after the first period, Beatriz Williams scored a pair of layups to give the hosts a 12-10 lead with 7:12 showing.
Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) responded with a 3-pointer to spark the game-changing run and give McDaniel the lead for good with 6:58 on the clock.
Triples from Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Nichols stretched the lead to seven before Davis and Rory Cole traded a pair of free throws.
Another Davis 3-pointer stretched the advantage to 10 with 3:08 remaining until halftime.
The Green Terror extended the advantage to 30-16 at the break before leading by as many as 17 in the third quarter.
Johns Hopkins closed to within 13 on a Sophia Way fast-break layup early in the fourth quarter but McDaniel responded with a 10-3 burst. A Nichols 3-pointer made it a 52-32 game with 6:56 to play.
Davis finished with 17 points and seven rebounds while Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added 11 points and three steals.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
