Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 28-15 halftime lead en route to a 48-38 win over Dickinson in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (4-1, 1-0 CC) with 13 points while Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added nine points and a career-high seven rebounds.
Sam Kennedy paced the Red Devils (3-2, 0-1 CC) with 13 points and three steals.
Tied at 11-all after the first quarter that featured five ties and four lead changes, Nichols hit a triple with 8:42 to play in the second period to put McDaniel in front for good.
The senior chipped in a layup 23 seconds later to push the lead to five.
A Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) layup pushed the lead to 13 with 2:09 to play before Mackenzie Skerritt answered with a fast-break layup at the other end.
Two Nichols free throws in the final 14 seconds of the half reestablished the 13-point advantage.
Trailing 38-23 after a Smith jumper, Skerritt beat the third-quarter buzzer with a 3-pointer from the left wing to close the deficit to 12 after 30 minutes.
Skerritt canned another 3-pointer with 6:04 to play in the fourth period to spark a 7-0 burst that closed the defcit to 42-36 with 3:46 showing.
However, a Nichols jumper and Smith steal-and-layup pushed the lead back tot double digits.
Zeps finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) chipped in seven points and three assists, becoming the third player in program history to dish out 300 helpers for her career.
Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the way on the glass with nine boards.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
