Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel put together an 8-2 run late to capture a 66-56 win over No. 21 Dickinson in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led the Green Terror (3-1, 1-0 CC) with 27 points, hitting 11 of his 15 field-goal attempts. Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added 19 points, including three 3-pointers.
Justus Melton paced the Red Devils (1-3, 0-1 CC) with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Trailing by as many as seven early in the second half, McDaniel rallied to capture its second straight home win over Dickinson.
Jule Brown put the visitors in front 37-31 with 16:05 to play before a Stewart jumper and Brooks 3-pointer closed the deficit to one just 1:42 later.
A Nick Yockey (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) jumper with 11:54 showing gave the Green Terror a one-point edge.
Layups from Brown and Ted Hinnenkamp put the Red Devils back in front by three another Brooks triple evened the game once again.
Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) drained his first collegiate basket – a 3-pointer – with 8:44 to play and Brooks added a steal and layup to make it a 46-42 game and force a Dickinson timeout with 8:11 to play.
Tied at 48-all, two Stewart free throw and back-to-back Brooks layups gave the hosts the lead for good.
The Green Terror built a lead as large as five in the opening seven minutes of the game before the Red Dveils rallied to tie the game at 14-all on a Moses Romocki 3-pointer with 10:02 showing in the first half.
The teams traded baskets over the remainder of the half with Dickinson in front 26-23 after 20 minutes.
Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) finished with six points, three assists and a career-best 11 rebounds.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
