WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel swept the day at 133, 141 and 149 to key a 3-0 day at the Green Terror Duals in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) led the Green Terror (3-1) with a 3-0 day at 141 that included a pair of pins and a major decision. McDaniel defeated Scranton 27-16, UMBC 50-6 and Penn State-Mont Alto, 35-8.
In the opening match against Scranton, the Royals (3-3) took a 3-0 lead on a Nicholas DePierro 9-6 win at 125. However, three straight McDaniel wins gave the hosts a 17-3 lead.
Jake Rendelman (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) notched a 1-minute, 49-second pin at 133 and O'Boyle followed with a 2-minute, 22-second fall at 141.
Alvontae Drummind (Lincoln, Del./Milford) added a second-period technical fall, winning 16-1 at 149 to cap the match-changing run.
Zachary D'Apolito closed the deficit to 17-7 with a 15-3 win at 157 before Luke Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) escaped the 165 match with a 1-0 win.
Kevin Merle and Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) traded decisions before Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) won 15-4 at 197.
Eric Calimano capped the first match with a first-period pin at heavyweight.
Against UMBC, the Green Terror won the first nine bouts before the Retrievers (0-2) were able to break up the shutout with a 4-minute, 19-second pin by Michael Bentivenga at heavyweight.
Rendelman and O'Boyle recorded their second pins of the day, winning by fall in 2:20 and 2:26, respectively. Trey Mitchell (Lewes, Del./Caesar Rodney) added a 54-second fall at 149 while Yox made it four McDaniel pins with a 1-minute, 42-second fall at 165. Pooton added a fifth fall in 39 seconds at 197.
Cross won by technical fall in the third period by a 19-2 count while Erik Meyer (Fallston, Md./Archbishop Curley) rounded out the wins on the mat with an 8-4 win at 157. Nathaniel Frantz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) and Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) each won by forfeit.
Against Penn State-Mont Alto, McDaniel jumped out to a 25-0 lead before the Lions (2-3) won their first of two bouts over the final four matches.
Frantz and Rendelman each recorded first-period pins before O'Boyle capped his 3-0 day with a 13-4 win at 141. Drummond added a 6-2 win before Meyer and Yox each needed sudden victory to record wins of 3-1 and 6-4, respectively.
Clay Kocsis broke up the shutout for Mont Alto with a technical fall late in the first period before Cross posted a 12-1 win at 184. Pooton was awarded an injury default victory before Max Elliott capped the day with a 4-2 win for the Lions in sudden victory at heavyweight.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5. Action begins at 12 p.m. on Friday.
