Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) won a pair of two-point sets to top McDaniel 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) led the Green Terror (18-7, 7-3 CC) with 23 assists and 13 digs. With the loss, McDaniel drops to the No. 4 seed in next week's conference tournament and will host Franklin & Marshall in the first-round match on Wednesday. Match time will be determined on Monday.
Kaitlyn Marino led the Shorewomen (17-10, 5-5 CC) with 12 kills and two blocks.
The first set featured eight ties and three lead changes before kills by Jess Daunoras and Kristin Lee sealed the 26-14 victory for Washington.
Trailing 24-19 in the second set after seven straight Washington points, a service error turned the serve to Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock).
After an attack error, kills by Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) and Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor School) closed the deficit to 24-23. Weger's next serve hit the net and bounced over for an ace to even the set.
Three errors and a Rose kill led to a 27-25 McDaniel win to even the match at 1-all.
The third set went back-and-forth with nine ties and six lead changes before a Jess Daunoras ace and three errors led to four straight points by the Shorewomen and a 25-23 victory.
Seven straight points early in the fourth set helped Washington open up a 10-5 lead en route to a 25-19 victory.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror attack with 12 kills while Lexi Corral (Tucson, Ariz./Gaithersburg [Md.]) added 10 kills. Martin added 13 digs for a double-double.
Weger led the defense with 23 digs – one of four players with double-digit digs.
