Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall scored the final two points of the fourth set to take a 3-1 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (12-6, 3-2 CC) with her third double-double in the last four matches. She recorded a season-best 24 digs to go with 18 kills. Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor School) added a season-best 14 kills, hitting .343 on the night.
Ellie Ezekiel led four players in double-digit kills for the Diplomats (11-11, 4-3 CC) with 15. She rounded out a double-double of her own with 16 digs. Alyssa Sanchez led four players in double-digit digs with 23.
Franklin & Marshall trailed 22-18 in the first set before back-to-back errors and a Rachel Umberger kill drew the visitors within one and forced a McDaniel timeout.
Another Green Terror error evened the match before Barbara Kapustin gave the Diplomats a 23-22 lead with one of her 14 kills.
Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) responded with a kill of her own to once again even the match before Umberger finished the set with back-to-back kills.
Franklin & Marshall carried that momentum into the second set, building an 11-4 lead en route to a 25-16 victory.
The Diplomats took a 7-4 lead in the third set before back-to-back Martin kills keyed a 4-1 stretch that evened the score at 8-all.
Tied at 9-all, a service error gave McDaniel a 10-9 edge and Rose and Rath knocked down back-to-back Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) assists for a 12-9 advantage.
The lead swelled to 17-13 on a pair of F&M errors before the Green Terror forced a fourth set, 25-18.
The fourth set featured 14 ties and six lead changes. The largest lead of the set came on a Sarah Donnelly (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) ace that gave McDaniel a 7-3 lead.
Two Ezekiel aces keyed a 5-1 counter that gave the Diplomats a one-point edge.
Trailing 21-20, Ezekiel knocked down three straight kills before kills from Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) and Martin out of a timeout drew the hosts even at 23-all.
After an error gave Franklin & Marshall match-point, a block from Allison Edelstein and Cassie Garison ended the match.
Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) steadied the McDaniel defense with 25 digs while Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added 16. Kellen chipped in 10 digs to go with 29 assists.
The Green Terror returns to action in a trimatch at home against Swarthmore and Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Match time is 12 p.m.
