Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 16-point second half lead en route to a 59-50 win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) led the Green Terror (11-4, 6-3 CC) to its fourth straight win with 14 points.
Tanner Kirkpatrick paced the Bullets (10-6, 6-3 CC) with 15 points. Sean Gordon added six points, five rebounds and eight assists.
Tied at 6-all, Brooks hit the first of his four 3-pointers to spark a 9-0 run that allowed the hosts the hosts to open up a 15-6 lead with 12:05 to play in the opening half.
Brooks added a jumper during the run while Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) and Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) each added a layup.
A Cameron Stewart layup closed the deficit to 17-10 before a Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) three-point play and Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) fast-break layup off a Perry steal and pass opened up a 12-point lead with 7:48 on the clock.
The Bullets countered with seven straight points to close to within five with 6:06 to play.
Perugino hit a trey to extend the lead back to eight at the other end.
Clinging to that eight-point lead, Brooks tracked down a long rebound and canned a 3-pointer from the top of the key as time expired for a 33-22 halftime lead.
A Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) layup and Brooks 3-pointer pushed the lead to 16 nearly five minutes into the second half.
Trailing 46-30 with 8:45 to play, Gettysburg put together a 12-2 run to close to close to within 48-42 with 3:11 on the clock.
Merlo answered with a 3-pointer from the left wing with 2:38 to play that pushed the lead back to nine and the Green Terror went 8-for-12 from the line in the final 1:57 to seal the win.
Stewart finished with 12 points while Perry added 11 points and three steals.
McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
