COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) won twice to lead McDaniel to a 1-3 day at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (4-4) opened the day by dropping a 24-16 decision to Hunter before evening its day with a 25-16 win over King's. McDaniel wrapped up the day falling to Elizabethtown 37-12 and Delaware Valley, 37-9.
In the opener, the Hawks (1-4) opened up a 12-0 lead in the match, tallying four straight decisions to open the day. Kenny Albert (125) won 7-3 before Andrew Traflsante (133) and Cary Palmer (141) each recorded 6-0 wins for a 9-0 lead. Andy Huang (149) capped the opening streak with an 11-4 win before Erik Meyer (Fallston, Md./Archbishop Curley) broke up the shutout with a 16-4 major decision at 157.
Jesse Bader stretched the lead to 15-4 with a 5-2 win at 165 before Jake Pooton notched a 1-minute, 23-second fall to make it a 15-10 match.
Marvin McKinney (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) momentarily gave the Green Terror a 16-15 edge, taking a forfeit win at 184 but Dennis Melendez notched a 12-2 win at 197 and Patryuk Kopzaenski won by technical fall 21-3 at heavyweight to secure the win.
Against the Monarchs (2-9), Nathaniel Frantz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) opened with a 3-0 win at 125 before Matt Sparks countered with a 6-1 victory to even the score at 3-all.
Anthoney Savage (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and Ben Siegal then traded major decisions. Savage won 10-0 at 141 before Siegal tallied a 17-6 win at 149.
A 6-3 win by Meyer at 157 and back-to-back pins from Logan Yox (Westmisnter, Md./Liberty) and Pooton gave the Green Terror a 22-7 lead in the match. Yox notched in his fall in 3:49 at 165 before Pooton won in 1:49 at 174.
Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) added a 5-1 win for McDaniel before Fjoralb Celici and Ralph Bernardo each won for King's to close out the match.
The Blue Jays (3-7) jumped out to a 12-0 lead behind pins from Johnny Achangelo (5:06) and Bryan Pflantz (0:44) before Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) cut the deficit in half with a 4-minute, 14-second fall of his own at 141.
Back-to-back wins from Mike Lambork and Jordan Mozer pushed the lead out to 19-6 before Yox notched the final victory of the match for McDaniel with a 3-minute, 43-second fall at 165.
The Aggies (8-2) opened up a 7-0 lead after a Connor Kirkguard 4-0 win and Zack Haynes 14-1 victory before Alvontae Drummond (Lincoln, Del./Milford) closed the deficit to 7-6 with a 3-minute, 56-second pin at 141.
Four straight Delaware Valley wins stretched the lead to 27-6 before Cross earned a 10-6 win at 184 for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Match time is 7 pm.
