Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. – McDaniel tallied the game's final five points to notch a 61-57 win over Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) recorded 15 points apiece to lead the Green Terror (10-1, 5-1 CC), who handed the Fords (6-6, 5-1 CC) their first conference loss.

Elizabeth Lynch and Anna Schrecengost netted 13 points each for Haverford.

After watching a 46-36 lead evaporate into a 57-56 deficit when Schrecengost hit a layup with 1:19 to play, Perez swished her third 3-pointer of the game at the other end, hitting with 1:00 to play from the right wing to put the visitors back in front.

The defense forced a turnover at the other end before the Green Terror had a chance to virtually seal the win but missed a pair of free throws with 14.7 seconds to play.

A foul on the rebound sent Haverford to the line with a chance to tie the game but the front end of a 1-and-1 was missed and Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) hit both of her attempts with 11.3 seconds on the clock for the final margin.

Trailing 4-3, March hit a layup with 15:27 to play in the opening half to spark an 8-0 run that put McDaniel on top 11-4 with 13:10 showing.

A Samantha Wetzel layup and Schrecengost 3-pointer closed the deficit to two before a Sierra Berkel layup eventually knotted the game at 13-all with 10:19 on the clock.

A Shelby Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) layup ignited an 11-0 run to give the Green Terror its largest advantage of the game with 6:55 remaining.

Trailing 29-22 at the break, the Fords tallied five of the first seven points in the second half to close to within four.

March stretched the lead back out to 10, hitting a jumper with 11:23 to play for a 46-36 lead.

Berkel and Wetzel combined to account for the next eight Haverford points and Lynch canned a triple to cap an 11-0 run that gave the hosts the advantage 3:08 later.

Six straight Green Terror points reestablished a five-point edge with 4:47 to play en route to the four-point win.

Nichols finished with 13 points and added five steals with March added six rebounds and four steals.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
