Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford scored the final two points of the deciding set to secure a 3-2 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheynne Mountain) led the Green Terror (10-4, 0-2 CC) with 14 kills and 14 digs.
Meg O'Day paced the Fords (8-6, 2-0 CC) with 22 kills, including for the final two points to give her team the victory. Nina Mutty added 16 kills while Madison Fuelling steadied the defense with 25 digs.
Clinging to a 13-11 lead after Kloe Martin's (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) 13th kill of the night from the back row, O'Day knocked down the final two points of the night, including the match-winner directly off the over for a 15-11 win in the deciding set.
Haverford built a 10-5 lead in the final set before McDaniel twice rallied to within two. Back-to-back Folaron kills made it a 10-8 score before Elena Garcia put away back-to-back Zoe Wong sets.
Folaron and Garcia traded kills before a ball-handling error and the Martin knockdown closed the deficit to two once again.
An early Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) ace keyed a 6-1 start to the match. An O'Day ace made it 6-3 but the hosts got no closer the rest of the way in a 25-17 Green Terror win.
Trailing 20-17 in the second set, McDaniel took advantage of three straight Ford attacking errors to even the set. Tied at 21-all, A Mutty kill and three Green Terror errors gave Haverford a 25-21 win to even the match at 1-all.
McDaniel built a 15-11 lead in the third set before the Fords used a pair of blocks to cap an 11-5 run that put the hosts in front, 22-21.
A Folaron kill evened the set once again but three straight O'Day kills gave Haverford a 25-22 win and 2-1 lead in the match.
Tied at 8-all in the fourth set, a Folaron ace keyed a 4-0 run that put McDaniel in front, 11-8.
The Green Terror extended the lead to as large as 20-12 before Haverford notched seven of the next eight points to close to within 21-19.
A pair of Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) kills and one from Martin helped McDaniel force the deciding set, 25-22.
Martin added 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) added seven kills and three aces.
Moyer added 28 assists and 18 digs while Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) led a defense that recorded a season-high 92 digs with 22. Sarah Donnelly (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) added 18 assists and 12 digs.
Corral finished with seven kills and four blocks.
The Green Terror returns to action at Notre Dame (Md.) on Thursday. Match time is 7 p.m.
