Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic took the first two sets before needing a fifth-set victory to defeat McDaniel 3-2 in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin led the Green Terror (9-2) with 15 kills and eight digs.
The Cardinals (13-1) took the first two sets by margins of 25-20 and 25-14, respectively, before McDaniel rallied to force a fifth set. McDaniel won the third set 25-20 before leveling the match at 2-all with a 25-19 win.
In the deciding set, Catholic was able to prevail, 15-8.
In addition to Martin's 15 kills, Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) notched seven while Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) and Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) each added six.
Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) added 21 assists while Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) chipped in 16. Both also had a kill and an ace.
Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) and Kellen steadied the defense with 23 and 17 digs, respectively.
Corral added eight total blocks while Rose had seven. Savin chipped in six blocks as part of a season-high 16.0 total blocks as a team.
Maria Juelle and Mary Paige Nesfeder led the Cardinal attack with 16 and 11 kills, respectively. Michelle Bouchard added 25 digs.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg on Saturday. It is part of a tri-match with Cedar Crest. Action begins at 12 p.m.
