Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-1 victory over St. Vincent in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.
Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) scored his first two goals of the season for the Green Terror (2-0), converting on two of his team's seven corner kicks.
Zachary Lakenan scored for the Bearcats (0-2) off a restart to break up the shutout in the 65th minute.
Kerry Shutt (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) collected a loose ball on the backside post in the eighth minute and slipped the ball through the defense and into the far side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 22nd minute, Hofmeister was able to get enough of an Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) corner kick to the backpost to get the ball over the line and double the advantage.
Escobar blasted in a long shot from the left side in the 32nd minute that the keeper deflected up but it ricocheted off the crossbar and back out to Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), who blasted home the rebound for a 3-0 lead.
On a restart, Christian Trueax slid a pass from the top of the box to his left, where Lakenan controlled the ball and blasted it into the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game at the 64:57 mark.
In the 75th minute, Escobar and Hofmeister once again connected on a corner kick to reestablish the three-goal margin.
McDaniel finished with a 13-10 edge in shots, including 10-3 in the decisive first half.
The Green Terror returns to action at Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
