Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson held McDaniel without a point for the final 6:18 of the first half, building a 25-point lead en route to a 77-63 in the 2014 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball semifinals on Friday.
Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) scored 16 points to lead the Green Terror (18-9), who will now await the announcement of the ECAC field on Monday to see if its season continues.
Ted Hinnenkamp netted 19 points to pace the top-seeded Red Devils (21-5), who will meet Johns Hopkins on Saturday for the championship.
Dickinson built a lead of as many as five in the first eight minutes of the game and McDaniel trimmed the deficit to one two different times.
A Cameron Royster (Derwood, Md./Magruder) free throw closed the deficit to 15-13 with 12:20 to play before Adam Honig drained a 3-pointer at the other end to spark a 16-3 run over the game's next nearly five minutes, stretching the advantage to 31-16.
Layups from Evan Pupelis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) closed the deficit to 11 with 6:18 remaining before six straight Red Devil points stretched the lead out to 37-20 and force a Green Terror timeout with 4:08 on the clock.
The drought for McDaniel lasted the rest of the first half, allowing Dickinson to extend the advantage to 45-20 at the intermission.
The Red Devil lead swelled to 49-23 on a Gerry Wixted layup with 16:21 to play before the Green Terror reeled off seven straight points to close the margin to 19 just 1:40 later.
Dickinson, however, pushed the lead out to 27 on two Wixted free throws with 8:05 on the clock.
A Wesley Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) tripled sparked one last McDaniel run that closed the margin to 65-48 with 5:26 to play.
Pupelis finished with nine points and 10 rebounds while Perry added nine points.
