Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – McDaniel netted 12 straight points early in the second half to secure a 76-61 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (5-0, 2-0 CC) with 22 points, including 18 in the first half for the highest first-half point total by a McDaniel player since Kristy Costa tallied 22 at Franklin & Marshall on Nov. 14, 2006.
Mary Martin paced the Red Devils (1-5, 0-4 CC) with 14 points while Sam Kennedy contributed 13.
After two ties and three lead changes in the game's first 4:53, Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) hit a pair of free throws to tie the game for the third time.
Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) followed with a layup and Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) drained back-to-back 3-pointers to give McDaniel an 18-10 lead with 13:16 showing.
Sarah Phillips halted the 8-0 run 15 seconds later and Kelsey Walsh added a layup to close the deficit to three.
Two Liz Schultz free throws closed the deficit to 27-25 with 6:28 showing but Nichols and Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) combined to push the lead back out to six a minute-and-a-half later.
Nichols netted seven straight Green Terror points to extend the advantage to double digits for the first time with 2:33 remaining in the first half en route to a 45-32 advantage at the break.
After Dickinson closed the deficit to 45-36 in the first minute of the second half, McDaniel tallied the game's next 12 points to open up a 21-point lead with 14:55 to play.
A Myonie Williamson layup with 8:48 to play accounted for the field goal for either team in a 4-minute, 21-second span before Zeps converted a three-point play with 8:27 showing to snap a 6-minute, 28-second drought from the floor for the Green Terror, making it a 67-44 game.
Keyed by four points from Kennedy, the Red Devils tallied eight straight points to close to within 71-60 with 1:43 to play but could get no closer.
Perez added 13 points while Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) contributed 12 points and five assists. March finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Zeps added nine points and six boards.
Nichols reached double figures for the fifth time in as many games this season, including the second time reaching the 20-point mark, leading McDaniel to its first 5-0 start since 1997.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
