Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – McDaniel built a 17-point first half lead en route to a 73-45 victory over Hood in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday.
Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) recorded her second straight double-double to lead the Green Terror (8-0) in a three-week break with its first-ever 8-0 start to a season. March reached double digits in rebounds for the third straight game, grabbing 11 boards to go with her 12 points. Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added 12 points of her own while Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the way for the seventh time this season with 15 points.
Rachel Wiley led the Blazers (1-6) with six points and 19 rebounds. Allie Appleby added nine points.
Baskets from Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) staked McDaniel to a 4-0 lead before Briana Lee cut the deficit in half with a 19-foot jumper at the 17:15 mark.
A Rachel Kessler free throw and Rachel Wiley layup gave Hood a brief 5-4 advantage before Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) drained a 3-pointer to put the Green Terror back in front 7-5 with 15:17 to play, sparking a 10-0 run in the process.
Nichols capped the burst with a trey directly off the inbounds with 13:07 showing.
Brittney George countered with the game's next five points to close the deficit to four with 12:19 remaining.
A March layup stretched the lead to double digits for the first time at 21-11 with 9:51 showing.
The lead extended as high as 17 en route to a 36-22 advantage at the intermission.
Behind points from four different players, the Green Terror tallied the first 11 points of the second half to open up a 25-point lead just 2:29 into the stanza.
A pair of Zeps free throws with 9:11 showing capped a 13-3 burst that stretched the lead to its largest at 64-30.
Zeps rounded out a quartet of double-digit scorers with 10 points. Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added seven points, a season-best nine steals and four assists while Davis had five points and four helpers.
The Green Terror returns to action at Hollins on Saturday, Jan. 3 Game time is 1 p.m.
