Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored 10 straight points late to turn a one-point edge into an 11-point lead with 2:51 to play, defeating Lehman 67-56 in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday.
Wes Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) led the Green Terror (4-1) with 13 points, hitting five of his six field-goal attempts and was 3-for-4 from long range. Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) added a season-best 13 points to go with four assists. Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) chipped in nine points and a career-best 10 rebounds.
Chaun Miller led the Lightning (4-2) with 21 points and nine rebounds while Jonathan Greenfield added 14 points.
After a Miller putback jumper made it a 53-52 game with 5:38 to play, Brooks canned a triple to push the lead back to four.
A Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) jumper a minute later made it a six-point lead before Merlo hit a 3-pointer of his own and converted a fast-break layup for a 63-52 lead with 2:51 showing.
Jerrome Jones hit the second of two free throws with 2:20 to play but Brooks responded with a jumper to push the lead to 12.
Miller bounded in a 3-pointer in the final minute but a Perry steal-and-layup in the final 30 seconds set the final margin.
Layups from John Brens and Miller staked Lehman to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 67 seconds before a Brooks 3-pointer cut the deficit to one.
A Stewart free throw with 15:51 remaining in the first half made it a 7-6 game before Cameron Royster converted a three-point play to turn the one-point deficit into a two-point edge 45 seconds later.
Miller momentarily tied the game at 9-all before an Anthony Morgan (York, Pa./New Hope Academy Charter) spin-move layup ignited an 11-0 run that gave the Green Terror its first double-digit advantage with 10:38 to play.
Morgan and Merlo combined to contribute nine of the 11 points during the run.
Jones closed the deficit to 20-15 with 7:46 on the clock before Brooks drained a trey to spark another 13-4 stretch that gave McDaniel its largest lead at 33-19 just 3:24 later.
Five points from Greenfield to close the half made it a 37-30 game at the intermission.
A Nic Martin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) layup off a Perry steal-and-pass ahead stretched the lead to 47-35 just 2:29 into the second half, capping a stretch of four baskets on five attempts to open the second stanza. Six straight Lightning points closed the deficit to 47-41 with 13:09 showing, however.
Trailing 51-44, Jones converted a pair of layups around a Greenfield jumper to trim the margin to 51-50 with 8:37 on the clock.
Perry added three assists and four steals for the Green Terror, who shot 54.2 percent from the floor
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
